I remember loving summer as a kid, even though it didn’t seem like we did much outside of watch television and play outside with friends. I’ve been looking forward to spending this summer with my kids ( now 5 and 8 ) and knew there had to be ample activities in and around Austin to keep us entertained. Sure, there are hundreds of great summer camps in the area, but funds are tight and – for once – I don’t have a job that requires me to be in a certain place for a certain amount of time during the week. I became determined to plan out the most fun for the least money I could, and began to seek out free or inexpensive family activities in the area.

I tapped into several of my online communities and, with loads of input from friends, developed a massive list of fun things to do in and around Austin. I decided the best way to organize things and help the list continue to grow would be to put it in blog form. It’s a constant work in progress, and I welcome your submissions of ideas to austinfamilyfun at gmail dot com

Please note: I’m a working mom with two kiddos who already spends too much time on the computer. This effort is completely volunteer, so I can’t guarantee complete accuracy or super-fast turnaround when ideas are submitted. Bear with me and keep things friendly, and I’ll work to build a rich resource for families to enjoy summer – and all other seasons – in Austin!
